The inauguration ceremony of 33 new crest gates installed at the Tungabhadra reservoir is scheduled to take place on 25th at Munirabad in the taluk. The Chief Ministers of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana, as well as ministers from various departments, will participate in the program. After the 19th crest gate of the reservoir broke suddenly in August 2024, experts who visited the site advised replacing all the gates. The work of installing new gates began in December last year after much pressure and has now reached the final stage of completion in six months. Ahmedabad-based Hardware Tools and Machine Project Limited company had taken the contract for gate installation. ‘Chain links have been installed for 26 out of the total 33 gates, and the work will be completed in three to four days,’ said S.B. Malligawad, the Chief Engineer of the Tungabhadra Project Circle of the Irrigation Corporation.
