The Ballari Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday took strict action against private hospitals for repeatedly violating solid and biomedical waste disposal regulations by dumping garbage in front of two defaulting establishments.
The action was taken against two private hospitals on Moka Road after they allegedly continued to ignore waste management rules despite receiving several warnings, notices, and penalties.
Municipal Administrator R. Thippeswamy said that one hospital was found dumping general waste in public areas, while the other was disposing of biomedical waste in municipal garbage vehicles, posing a serious risk to sanitation workers and the public.
He said both hospitals had earlier been issued notices and fined, but the management failed to take corrective steps. “Even after repeated instructions and penalties, the hospital administrations did not take the matter seriously and did not follow the prescribed waste disposal norms,” he said.
As a form of protest, municipal staff dumped garbage outside the hospital premises on Wednesday morning. Officials said the move was aimed at creating awareness and discouraging similar violations by other institutions.
“This is just the beginning. If any hospital or establishment is found dumping waste in public places or illegally disposing of biomedical waste in the future, strict action will be taken without hesitation,” civic officials warned.
The sudden action reportedly caused panic among hospital staff, who were seen contacting their management after garbage was dumped at the entrances.
Meanwhile, the municipal corporation’s move received widespread public support, with many citizens appreciating the action on social media.
