Traveler Nooks to come up at Hampi monuments; DC issues deadline

As part of the centrally sponsored Swadeshi Darshan 2.0 scheme, District Collector Kavita S. Mannikeri has directed officials to ensure arrangements for passenger safety checkpoints near monuments and tourist locations to improve facilities for visitors to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Hampi.

Addressing a meeting held here on Monday regarding the Traveler Nook project, she said the initiative aims to establish ‘Traveler Nooks’ under a single roof to provide essential amenities such as drinking water, hygienic toilets, and shaded resting spaces for tourists visiting Hampi. These facilities will be developed with the required infrastructure and made available to visitors at affordable costs.

She stated that a total of 20 Traveler Nooks are proposed at key monuments and tourist spots, including Chandrakeshwar Temple, Vijaya Vitthal Temple, Virupaksha Temple, and near Mayura Bhuvaneshwari Hotel in Kamalapur. She instructed officials to resolve space constraints or other implementation hurdles promptly and ensure completion within the stipulated timeline.

Zilla Panchayat CEO Nongjoy Mohammad Ali Akram Shah, ASP G. Manjunath, Municipal Commissioner A. Shivakumar, and officials from the Archaeological Survey of India were present at the meeting.
