JSW Infrastructure Limited has announced an investment of ₹57.43 crores for acquiring a brownfield Rail Siding at Kudathini in Ballari, Karnataka, through its subsidiary, JSW Port Logistics Private Limited. The move aims to strengthen the company’s logistics network and boost multimodal connectivity.
Spread across 85.71 acres, the facility was earlier owned by Hothur Ispat Private Limited. This acquisition further consolidates JSW Infrastructure’s position as a leading integrated logistics provider.
Strategic Importance
The Kudathini siding is being transformed into a Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) with advanced land infrastructure, container handling facilities, a Rail Freight Terminal (RFT), and an Inland Container Depot (ICD). Commercial operations are targeted to begin within six months, with gradual expansion planned.
The overall project cost is pegged at ₹380 crores, inclusive of the acquisition, to be invested over the coming years for developing a full-fledged logistics hub.
Operational Advantage
Located close to JSW Steel’s Vijayanagar plant and other group facilities, the siding provides a major edge for transporting raw materials, intermediates, and finished goods. Its proximity to a robust industrial ecosystem is also expected to draw third-party cargo volumes.
Currently, Ballari lacks a rail-linked ICD, forcing reliance on road transport for containerized EXIM cargo, which increases costs. The proposed ICD is expected to significantly cut logistics expenses and offer integrated solutions to regional customers.
JSW Infrastructure, along with its subsidiary, already runs rail-linked terminals at Panvel (Maharashtra) and Morbi (Gujarat), with another Gati Shakti Terminal (GCT) under development at Arakkonam, Chennai (Tamil Nadu).
