The Karnataka government has announced the establishment of a Jeans Park in Ballari district, fulfilling a promise made by AICC leader Rahul Gandhi during the Bharat Jodo Yatra. Industries Minister MB Patil stated on Thursday that 154 acres of land have been acquired for the project, which will be overseen by the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB). The proposed park will be set up at Sajanjeerayanakote, near Ballari, aiming to elevate the denim industry in the region to global standards.
Minister Patil highlighted that political instability in Bangladesh has created a unique opportunity for Ballari to position itself as a favorable destination for denim investments. “The uncertain situation in Bangladesh has prompted investors and exporters to look for alternatives. We intend to leverage this by attracting global companies to the Jeans Park,” he said.
Ballari, already home to over 500 jeans manufacturing units providing thousands of direct and indirect jobs, is set to become an organized export hub with the support of the Textiles Department. A meeting with the textiles minister is planned to explore incentive options for manufacturers in the region.
This initiative aligns with a commitment made by Rahul Gandhi during the Bharat Jodo Yatra and reiterated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the state budget. The project seeks to transform Ballari into a globally recognized hub for denim production.
According to Minister Patil, the park is expected to attract globally renowned companies, further strengthening the local economy. He emphasized that the current geopolitical scenario is conducive to achieving this vision.
