The Government Polytechnic in Ballari has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the inaugural state-run technical institution to receive certification from the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). The certification, granted a few days ago, follows the institution’s application submitted in August and a subsequent visit by the NBA’s expert committee in the first week of November.
The certification specifically acknowledges the Mechanical Department of the Ballari Polytechnic, a recognition that underscores the institution’s commitment to meeting the required criteria. Principal M Anand highlighted that the faculty strength, a crucial criterion, is well-maintained, with the Mechanical Department boasting eight qualified teachers, aligning with the student population.
Head of the Mechanical Department, K Abdul Rahman, emphasized the department’s outstanding achievements, noting a 100% placement record and full admissions each year. The college, with a total student strength of 1,200 and 180 in the Mechanical Department, stands out at a time when other government-run engineering colleges, including Bengaluru’s University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE), face challenges in obtaining NBA accreditation.
The Department of Technical Education recognized the institution’s efforts by issuing an appreciation letter upon receiving the certification. Established in 1937 as Government Industrial School, the college underwent name changes before becoming Ballari Polytechnic in 1956.
