6 Wolf pups safely rescued in Vijayanagara district

The Green Hagaribommanahalli (GHB) team, in collaboration with the Forest Department, successfully rescued and reunited six wolf pups in Basarakoda village, located in Hagaribommanahalli taluk of Vijayanagara district on Sunday.

The rescue mission was initiated when a villager named Sandeep discovered six wolf pups in a sugarcane field that had been set ablaze to clear crop residue. Concerned for their well-being, Sandeep promptly alerted senior forest officials and GHB members, including Vijay Ittagai, Anand Babu, and Vikas. Working alongside veterinary doctors, they rescued the dehydrated pups, estimated to be 10-15 days old.

After providing the pups with essential first aid and rehydration, authorities decided to return them to the same location where they were found. Ongoing monitoring by officials and GHB members ensured the pups received water and diluted milk every two hours. In the evening, to the relief of all involved, the wolf pair, assumed to be the parents, arrived at the spot and safely relocated the pups to a more secure area.

Assistant Conservator of Forest, Rajesh Naik, informed reporters that comprehensive precautionary measures were implemented to safeguard the well-being of the pups. “Our officials, in collaboration with veterinarians, closely monitored the health of the pups. Fortunately, the wolves retrieved their offspring, ensuring a positive outcome for this rescue mission,” he stated.
