In a concerning incident that has shaken Kanivihalli village of Harapanahalli taluk, a total of 14 people have fallen ill and experienced vomiting due to the consumption of contaminated water. The situation took a severe turn when one individual’s condition deteriorated, and they are now in critical condition, urgently requiring medical attention. The individual in critical condition has been promptly referred to Davangere for specialized treatment.
Six village residents, namely Rekha, Kavya, Rajakka, Vasantha, and Halamma, were admitted to the public hospital in town due to illness caused by contaminated water. Additionally, four individuals, including Renukamma, Basavaraj, and Jyothemma, sought treatment at a private hospital. Local doctors advised transferring H. Basavaraj, who is in critical condition, to Davangere hospital. Meanwhile, three people have received treatment and are currently recuperating in the village.
Kanivihalli, located within the jurisdiction of Nandibevur Gram Panchayat, is currently facing an unfortunate situation. Fourteen residents residing in a particular lane of the village have fallen sick. According to the villagers, the cause of the illness is attributed to a broken water pipe that resulted in the contamination of the water supply with sewage water, leading to vomiting among the affected individuals.
Upon receiving information about the situation, a team of district and taluk-level officials promptly visited the village for inspection. Among the officials present were District Panchayat Planning Director Ashoka Thotada, District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr. Salim, District Surveyor Dr. Shanmukhanayka, Tehsildar Dr. Shivakumar Biradar, Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer K. R. Prakash, Assistant Director Veeranna Lakkannavar, Engineers from the Rural Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation Department, and Asha workers.
Temporary Alternative Water Supply Implemented
A water sample from the affected area was collected and sent to the laboratory for testing. The results are expected to be available within 48 hours. In the meantime, provisions for treatment in the village will be arranged. Dr. Halaswamy, the Taluk Medical Officer of the Health and Family Welfare Department, has instructed the village panchayat to suspend the water supply and make alternate arrangements for providing clean water.
