Two new water tanks for Hospet; one crore litres supply plan announced Gaviyappa

MLA H.R. Gaviyappa said a system to purify and pump one crore litres of water to the city will be implemented within a month, after which it will be possible to supply water for half an hour daily.

He shared this after performing the groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday for the construction of water tanks of 10 lakh litres capacity each in M.J. Nagar and M.P. Prakash Nagar under the Amrit Nagarotthana Yojana.

“As soon as the Urban Development Department releases the ₹2 crore grant, arrangements are being made to lay a pipeline from the existing reservoir and pump water to these tanks. We have been assured that the grant will be released within 15 days. At present, eight lakh litres of water is being pumped daily in three shifts, and in the future, this will be increased to 28 lakh litres. Then, more than one crore litres of water will be supplied every day to tanks in and around the city,” the MLA said.

₹390 crore project:
He said a tender has been floated for a separate 70 MLD water purification and supply project for the city with a ₹390 crore grant from KMERC. The matter has been discussed with several officials, including Minister Bairati Suresh. The project will be taken up after obtaining the confidence of all municipal council members. Large tanks will be built at Joladarashi Gudda, Jambunath Gudda and Kariganur, from where water will be pumped. If implemented, the city’s water needs will be met even if the population rises to eight lakh. He added that the city currently has a 38 MLD water purification system.

He further said that several works, including road projects, have been entrusted to 38 contractors in the city and that all works will be completed within a few months without delay.

Municipal Council President N. Rupesh Kumar, Vice President Saravana, Municipal Commissioner A. Shivakumar, councillors Ramesh Gupta, H.K. Manjunath and others were present.

District hospital to be inaugurated for the Hampi Utsav

With the Hampi Utsav beginning on February 13, there is a plan to inaugurate a new 250-bed district hospital at the same time. Initially, seven departments will function, with infrastructure to be expanded gradually. Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has already assured support in this regard. This is the first phase, and in the second phase, the hospital will be expanded to 400 beds and developed into a major facility. The entire process may take two to three years, said MLA Gaviyappa.
