Ten keypad mobile phones were recovered from Ballari Central Jail during a midnight raid conducted to detect contraband items. Three phones were concealed beneath the floor of the third barrack, while another three were found hidden near plants outside the general toilet, with the remaining devices located in other areas.
Jail officials are probing to identify the inmates who used the phones. A case has been registered against unknown persons at the Brucepet police station. The incident has raised serious questions over prison security, as mobile phones and chargers were allegedly smuggled in despite strict checks.
Earlier, ganja had been seized from the jail, and videos recorded by inmates had gone viral on social media. The latest raid has now led to the recovery of basic mobile phones.
