A tanker truck transporting palm oil overturned near Devalapur in Kampli taluk, resulting in a large quantity of oil spilling onto the road. Villagers from nearby areas hurried to the spot to collect the oil, while the driver and cleaner of the vehicle escaped without injuries.
The incident occurred near the Devalapur Valley Maremma Temple when the tanker lost balance on a curve in the road and overturned. The impact damaged the tanker, causing palm oil to flow onto the road and surrounding areas. Both the driver and cleaner, who were inside the vehicle at the time, were fortunate to escape unharmed.
Cause of the accident
Eyewitnesses said the lorry lost control while negotiating a sharp bend near Devalapur Valley, leading to the accident. The sudden overturn resulted in extensive spillage of palm oil from the tanker.
Crowd gathers to collect oil
As word of the spill spread to neighbouring villages, men and women arrived at the scene carrying buckets, cans, mugs, and plastic containers to gather the oil lying on the road.
Police struggle to manage the situation
Police personnel rushed to the spot and faced difficulty in controlling the crowd. The heavy gathering also led to a temporary disruption of traffic. Authorities took precautionary steps to ensure safety and avoid further mishaps.
There were no casualties in the incident. However, the public standing on the road to collect oil raised safety concerns among officials.
