The Karnataka Government is advancing the ambitious Kalyana Patha four-lane road project, aimed at creating a smooth north–south corridor through the Bidar–Chamarajanagar highway. Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi informed the Legislative Council on Tuesday that work is underway across Bidar, Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Koppal, Raichur, Ballari, and Vijayanagara districts.
Responding to a starred query by member Shashil G. Namoshi, the Minister said the project is being carried out by the Karnataka Rural Road Development Agency (KRRDA). Under the initiative, 1,124.70 km of road works have been launched at an estimated cost of ₹1,000 crore. Of the 286 works sanctioned, 281 are currently in progress and five are in the tendering process. According to KRRDA’s progress report, 75 km have been completed so far, with ₹150 crore already utilised.
He stressed that improved rural connectivity is key to economic and social growth. Upgrading village roads to all-weather routes will enhance access to hospitals, markets, educational institutions, and administrative centres. “The Kalyana Patha project aims to meet this need and strengthen rural mobility across Kalyana Karnataka,” the Minister said.
