Activists of the Harapanahalli Taluk District Committee on Wednesday expressed strong opposition to the cabinet’s decision to establish Vijayanagara District. The Harapanahalli District struggle committee officials held an emergency meeting at the pavilion in protest of the state government’s decision and later staged a protest in the IB circle.
District Committee Convener Idli Ramappa said, “The former chief minister has been showing interest to make Hrapanahalli district comprising western taluks of Harapanahalli. But B.S Yediyurappa has made a mad decision to announce the Vijayanagara district to lure Anand Singh, who is involved in mining scam”.
Brothers Karunakara reddy and Somashekhar reddy who were opposed when they wanted to create a district named Harapanahalli are asked to resign from the legislature with moral responsibility and take to the streets. Hosapete has been given the District status hiding the fact that cities of Ballari and Hosapete are equally spaced. There is no consensus among the people of western taluks. He also said fierce fighting would take place in the coming days.
Hoshili Mallesh, Gudihalli Halesh, Sandera and others were present at the meeting.
The saddened Karunakara Reddy says, “He is deeply depressed by C.M Yediyurappa’s sudden decision on making Vijayanagara a district, as in the last assembly meeting he had said that, there is no guarantee as of carving a new district and will think it over. But, this decision has created discontent. As, we had demanded Harapanahalli to be carved out as a new district”.
