In Alavandi, Koppal, a group of youths from Handral village took it upon themselves to temporarily repair the deteriorated road linking Handral to Vadaganala before the Ganesh festival, filling potholes that had long troubled villagers and motorists after officials and legislators failed to act.
The Handral Ka Maharaj Youth Team, which annually installs a Ganesh idol as part of the Ganesh celebrations, discussed the village’s crumbling road in a pre‑festival meeting and resolved to carry out the repair themselves.
Each member contributed personal funds and collected additional money from others to cover the roughly one‑kilometre stretch; using a tractor, they dumped soil into the potholes to close them.
Villagers had repeatedly appealed to the MLA and local administration for road work, but received no response, leaving drivers and residents to endure daily inconvenience. The youths’ initiative earned praise from the community.
