A tragic incident was reported from Hospet in Vijayanagar district, where a 50-year-old man was allegedly assaulted and killed by a group of youths while attempting to intervene in a fight involving his son. The deceased has been identified as Mabusab, a resident of Kariganur. A case has been registered at the Hospet City Police Station, and efforts are underway to trace the remaining accused.
The incident occurred on Monday night after an argument over a minor issue escalated into a violent clash between youths in the Kariganur area of Hospet city. During the altercation, a group of youths began attacking Mabusab’s second son, Maulahusain.
Seeing his son being assaulted, Mabusab rushed to the spot in an attempt to pacify the group and stop the fight. However, the situation worsened when the youths allegedly turned on him. More than 15 individuals reportedly attacked him and sustained severe blows to the chest, following which he collapsed and died on the spot.
The rural police have taken into custody three accused, Bhangi Hanumantha, Charana, and Huligemma, while a search is on for Raghavendra, Darshan, Chandra, and Guraiah. Police have intensified patrolling and set up a presence in the Kariganur area to prevent any further unrest.
Senior police officials, including IGP Vartika Katiyar, SP S. Jahnavi, ASP Manjunath and DySP Da. Manjunath, visited the scene and inspected the spot.
Following the incident, tension prevailed in the area. The body was shifted to the government hospital in Hospet for post-mortem, where grieving family members gathered. The victim’s wife broke down, demanding justice for her husband’s death.
Locals and relatives have urged the police to immediately arrest all those involved and ensure strict action. An investigation is ongoing, and security arrangements in the area have been strengthened in view of the situation.
