According to the ED, the investigation found that Mahesh and his family members carried and sold illegally mined ore worth 62.92 crores without legitimate permits or based on fake permits. They also received risk money totaling 40.93 crores for the transit of illegally mined ore by others. According to a statement from the ED, the majority of the money was paid in cash and used to buy real estate.

ED has also targeted another opposition party leader ahead of the Assembly elections.

Two immovable assets owned by the former bureaucrat T.N. Chikkarayappa, valued at 1.1 crores, were attached by the ED in an interim attachment order issued on Friday. Mr. Chikkarayappa, who is thought to be close to Opposition Leader Siddaramaiah, has been aggressively advocating for him in Kolar and is rumored to be a candidate for the party’s nomination in one of the Bengaluru districts.

The ED released a statement in which it claimed that “investigation revealed that Mr. Chikkarayappa during his government service with the help of other accused persons illegally accumulated disproportionate assets to the tune of 5.33 crore, which is 304.93% excess than the legal source of income.”
