The body of a contract laborer, employed under the Tungabhadra project’s left bank main canal in Munirabad, was discovered in a sub-canal on Tuesday morning.
Identified as Lingaraja Mailarappa Madiwala (44) from Agalakera village, the deceased had worked in irrigation canal maintenance for 22 years. Lingaraja’s family notified Munirabad police that he had left for work on Monday morning but was found in the canal the next day. Following a medical examination, the police returned the body to the family.
At the Irrigation Office, relatives and coworkers of the deceased gathered, demanding increased compensation. Engineers Nagabhushan, Aziz, and Amareshappa from the Irrigation Department provided ₹10,000 for funeral expenses, according to the family. A case of unnatural death has been filed at the local police station.
