Miscreants allegedly concealed ganja inside balls, sealed them with tape, and hurled them into the premises of Bellary Central Jail. A case has been registered in this connection at the Brucepet police station.
On Tuesday (December 16), a patrolling officer noticed a tape-wrapped ball lying close to the jail wall and handed it over to the jailer. CCTV footage from the spot reportedly showed an unidentified person throwing the object into the prison compound.
During a subsequent search of the area where the first ball had landed, another similar ball was recovered. On opening both, officials found a substance suspected to be marijuana inside.
Police stated that efforts are underway to trace the accused, and inmates lodged in the jail are also being questioned as part of the investigation.
