Anand Singh was hospitalised on Sunday (January 20) after he got into a brawl with a party colleague JN Ganesh last evening at the Eagleton Resort.

Taking a jibe at the party after the incident, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said “all is not well” within the Congress party and it was unfortunate that Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Dinesh Gundu Rao could not stop the incident.

Local media reported that Congress lawmaker Anand Singh was hospitalised after being hit on the head with a bottle by colleague JN Ganesh at the resort where all the lawmakers were moved on Friday.

Speaking on the matter, Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara said he does not have any information of Anand Singh being hospitalised. “Anand Singh is in hospital according to media. I don’t have info. If he has gone I’ll get details,” he said.

“I tried to talk to DK Shivakumar to ask what happened. I couldn’t get him,” he added.

Meanwhile, senior Congress leader DK Shivakumar rubbished reports of a brawl between the two leaders.

“There is no fight. You saw all of them coming together, going together. It is fake news. Entire Congress party is united. I’m confident that even those who couldn’t attend CLP will come to Congress,” he said.

In a series of posts on microblogging website Twitter, BJP mocked the incident and said all is not well within the Congress.

“What more proof do we need to tell all is not well within Congress? MLA’s in Eagleton resort indulged in a physical fight and 1 MLA is admitted. How long will Congress be in denial mode and blame BJP for all their differences?” BJP questioned.

“When a political party is lame, it loves to blame,” it added.

Taking a dig at the KPCC president, BJP tweeted: “It is unfortunate that KPCC President was unable to stop the fight in Eagleton resort. We hope Anand Singh is being treated and we pray for his speedy recovery.”

“Unfortunately, Dinesh Gundu Rao can’t even blame BJP now, MLA’s were locked up under his watch at Eagleton,” it added.

Congress had moved 76 of its 80 lawmakers to Eagleton Resort amid fears of horse-trading by the BJP. The political drama in the state has entered its seventh day with Congress stepping up efforts to quell the issue.

Earlier, there were allegations that five lawmakers had gone missing but they surfaced shortly after and denied any involvement with the rival party.

The other four lawmakers — Ramesh Jarkiholi( Gokak), Mahesh Kumathalli, B Nagendra and Umesh Jadhav — who failed to turn up at the resort for the Congress legislature party (CLP) meet on Friday have been issued a show cause notice.

However, Shivakumar said those failed to attend the meeting “will also come back strongly to the Congress fold”.
