Ballari accountant accused of defrauding 13 traders of ₹40.66 lakh via fake GST documents

A case has been registered at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Ballari on Monday against an accountant who allegedly defrauded 13 local traders of a total of ₹40.66 lakh by creating fake documents related to GST accounting and return filings. The FIR was filed based on a complaint lodged by Narapat Singh, a 43-year-old cloth trader residing on L.N. Temple Road in the city.

Narapat Singh, who operates a GST-registered cloth shop named ‘Plus Point Cut Piece’ in Ballari, had entrusted Praveen Kumar with the management of his GST accounts and the submission of returns. Kumar was also responsible for preparing bills for tax payments through the GSTN account and submitting them to the authorities. According to the complaint, between 2020–21 and 2025–26, the accused opened a business entity named ‘Shree Jee Traders’ in the name of his wife, Nirmaladevi, and obtained GST registration for it.

The FIR alleges that Praveen Kumar and Nirmaladevi used the complainant’s business documents, bill books, Input Tax Credit (ITC) records, returns, invoices, and Tally data to create fraudulent electronic documents. They purportedly presented direct sales to customers (B2C) as business-to-business (B2B) transactions, resulting in inflated business figures on the complainant’s GST portal. This manipulation is said to have imposed a tax liability of approximately ₹5.01 lakh on Narapat Singh. The FIR states that the couple committed similar frauds against a total of 13 individuals.

In a separate incident within the jurisdiction of the Koul Bazaar Police Station in Ballari, a young man was killed after being assaulted with an iron pipe. The victim was identified as Muktiyar Ahmed, 30, while the accused was identified as Nazrat Ulla, 40. The incident occurred on Sharif Street on Tuesday night. Nazrat Ulla allegedly attacked Muktiyar Ahmed with the pipe due to suspicions that the victim was involved in an illicit relationship with his wife.

Initially, a case of attempted murder was registered at the Koul Bazaar Police Station. However, after Muktiyar Ahmed died at 4:30 a.m. on October 21 while receiving treatment for severe injuries at a hospital, the nature of the case was changed. The police dropped the sections related to the initial assault attempt and registered a new case under murder charges at the Koul Bazaar Police Station.
