A 28-year-old man who sustained severe burn injuries during a Muharram religious ritual in Kyadigehallu village of Kurugodu taluk in Ballari district succumbed to his injuries on Saturday while undergoing treatment. The deceased has been identified as Devendra. The incident occurred during a traditional fire-walking ritual organised as part of Muharram celebrations in front of a mosque in the village. According to officials, Devendra reportedly lost his footing while walking across the burning embers and fell into the fire, suffering severe burn injuries on multiple parts of his body. He was initially provided first aid before being shifted to the Vijayanagara Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital in Ballari on Friday for advanced treatment. Despite the efforts of doctors, Devendra succumbed to his injuries on Saturday morning, police said. The incident has cast a pall of gloom over Kyadigehallu village, where residents had gathered for the religious event. A case has been registered at the Kurugodu Police Station, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident.
