ABVP Protests at Ballari School Alleging Ganja and Drug Supply to Students

Activists of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) created unrest on Friday at a private school on Talur Main Road on the outskirts of Ballari, alleging that ganja and other drugs were being supplied to students on campus.

The protest began outside the main gate, where members raised slogans against the institution. Some activists later allegedly forced open the gate and entered the premises. During the commotion, flower pots were damaged, window panes in the principal’s office were shattered, and chairs and classroom furniture were broken. Desks were reportedly thrown from the first floor to the ground floor. School staff narrowly escaped harm.

ABVP activist Abhishek Hiremath told the media that they had come to “clean the school by pouring cow urine” but were provoked, which led to the escalation.

Police personnel reached the spot and brought the situation under control. District Superintendent of Police Suman D.P. said the protest had been organised without prior permission and that damage was caused to school property. He added that a case would be registered at the rural police station and appropriate legal action would follow. Protesters were later detained and taken away.

Responding to the allegations, the head of the school’s governing body, Prabhuraj Jagirdar, said the institution was committed to education and denied the claims. He stated that if there were any concerns about drug use, they should be reported to the police instead of resorting to vandalism. Further details are awaited.
