Bellary Riots: DySP Nanda Reddy Transferred Without Posting, Third Officer to Face Action

In connection with the banner clash incident in Ballari, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Chandrakant Nanda Reddy has been transferred without being assigned a new posting, following the suspension of SP Pawan Nezjur and the transfer of DIG Varthika Katiyar. Yash Kumar Sharma, an IPS officer of the 2023 batch, has been appointed in his place. With this development, Chandrakant Nanda Reddy becomes the third senior police officer to face administrative action in the case.

According to official sources, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Heetendra submitted a report to the state government stating that DySP Nanda Reddy had failed to effectively control the situation during the banner-related unrest. Based on this report, the government ordered his transfer without immediate posting.

Earlier, SP Pawan Nezjur was suspended on the second day after the incident, while DIG Varthika Katiyar was transferred soon after. Now, the transfer of DySP Chandrakant Nanda Reddy marks the third major administrative action taken in connection with the case.

Political reactions followed these developments. Several BJP leaders had demanded strict action against DySP Chandrakant Nanda Reddy and Additional SP Ravikumar. Leaders including Janardhan Reddy and B. Sriramulu accused the officers of failing to control the situation and allegedly supporting certain MLAs.

Sources indicated that, based on the ADGP’s report, further action against other officers may be considered in the coming days.

Meanwhile, investigations into the banner clash incident are continuing, and authorities have stated that necessary steps will be taken based on official findings.
