The national highways passing through the twin districts of Ballari and Vijayanagar will be upgraded, and directions have been issued to accelerate road works that have been progressing slowly, said MP E. Tukaram.
Speaking after laying the foundation stone for a ₹33-crore bridge and underpass project by the National Highways Authority of India on National Highway 50 near Danapur village, close to Mariyammanahalli, on Monday, the MP said he aims to lead development efforts in Kalyana Karnataka by strengthening national highways and other roads in the region.
He said officials have been instructed to urgently accelerate ongoing national highway works and ensure faster execution for the public’s convenience. Referring to frequent accidents on the Mariyammanahalli–Hospet stretch, he said a 2.7-km service road will be constructed to improve safety. The project has an 18-month completion deadline, and instructions have been given to adhere strictly to the timeline.
MP Tukaram said that along with MPs B.Y. Raghavendra and Dr. Prabha Mallikarjuna, a proposal will be submitted to Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari seeking the construction of the Shivamogga highway from NH-50 at Mariyammanahalli.
Stating that he would deliver results where others failed over the past 20 years, he said plans are underway to develop Kottur, Mariyammanahalli and Hagaribommanahalli railway stations as model stations. Service roads will be built in phases at Devalapur, Dananayakanakere, Haruvanahalli, Gollarahalli and Pothalakatte villages. A proposal to construct a flyover at Mariyammanahalli LC Gate No. 20 is also being prepared.
He added that passenger services on the railway route connecting Chitradurga, Tumakuru and Bengaluru via Yeshwantpur through Swamihalli have been approved, improving connectivity for the region.
MP E. Tukaram formally inaugurated the ₹33-crore NH-50 bridge and underpass project near Danapur village by performing the ground-breaking ceremony.
