Housing Minister and Vijayanagar district in-charge, Zameer Ahmed Khan, personally extended financial assistance of ₹10 lakh each to the families of Kavita and Mailarappa, who lost their lives in a gas cylinder explosion at Gadiganur in Hospet taluk on September 27.
The minister met the bereaved families on Sunday and handed over the assistance. Two others undergoing treatment at Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru also succumbed to their injuries later.
The incident has once again highlighted the need for increased public awareness and safety measures, such as regular checking of gas connections, avoiding leakage-prone rubber tubes, ensuring proper ventilation in kitchens, and switching off regulators when not in use to prevent such accidents in households.
