Around 40 motorcycles were destroyed in an accidental fire on the outskirts of Ballari on Monday. The blaze broke out in a truck transporting new bikes from Chennai to the Ballari and Vijayanagara districts. The truck driver noticed smoke emerging from inside the vehicle and, with the help of locals, opened the door. However, the fire had already spread rapidly inside.
Firefighters rushed to the spot after being alerted, but by the time they arrived, both the truck and the bikes had been completely gutted. Preliminary suspicion points to a technical fault or a possible spark in the bike batteries as the cause of the fire. Police said the exact reason will be determined after a detailed investigation. A case has been registered at the Gandhinagar police station.
