26-year-old doctor lost in Tungabhadra river, search operation ongoing

A 26-year-old doctor from Hyderabad disappeared after being carried away by powerful currents while swimming in the Tungabhadra River close to Koppal, Karnataka. A search operation is currently underway.

Ananya, who worked at a private hospital in Hyderabad, was on a trip with three friends when the incident occurred. On Wednesday morning, she leaped into the river from a rock cliff but was quickly swept away by the strong currents.

In a video filmed just before she jumped, she is seen preparing to dive in, with someone counting down in the background. After briefly surfacing, she disappeared under the water moments later.

Her friends immediately sought help, leading the fire and rescue department, as well as the police, to launch a search. As of now, she remains missing.

Koppal Superintendent of Police Ram L Arasiddi stated that the search is ongoing, but no details on her condition have been confirmed. “The fire department, police, and local swimmers are continuing their efforts, but nothing has been found yet. We cannot confirm her death unless the body is recovered. The group from Hyderabad was enjoying the river when this unfortunate event took place,” he explained.

The case falls under the jurisdiction of the Gangavathi Rural Police Station, located near the Tungabhadra dam.
