A state-of-the-art library costing ₹10 crore is set to come up in Ballari city, announced Ballari City MLA Nara Bharat Reddy on Tuesday. The announcement was made at the B.R. Ambedkar birth anniversary celebrations organised by the district administration, Zilla Panchayat, Municipal Corporation, and Social Welfare Department at the Municipal College Grounds on Dr. Rajkumar Road.
“This library is being built to fulfil Ambedkar’s vision,” said MLA Reddy. “Through this, the children of Ballari should study and go on to become IAS and IPS officers, engineers and doctors.”
The library, once built, would be among the better-equipped public reading facilities in the region, giving students from all backgrounds a dedicated space to prepare for competitive examinations and pursue higher learning. For a city like Ballari, where access to quality study infrastructure has historically been uneven, the announcement carries real significance.
The event itself brought together senior officials and public representatives from across the district. District Collector Nagendra Prasad K read out the preamble to the Constitution, a tradition that has become central to Ambedkar Jayanti observances. District Superintendent of Police Dr. Suman D. Pannekar, Municipal Corporation Mayor P. Gadeppa, and Mundaragi Nagaraja, Chairman of Babu Jagjivanaram Leather Industries Development Corporation Limited, also addressed the gathering. Prof. N. Chinnaswamy Sosale, senior professor at Kannada University, Hampi, delivered a lecture on the occasion.
Among those present were District Guarantee Scheme Implementation Authority Chairman K.E. Chidanandappa, District Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Sangha President H. Thippeswamy, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Mohammed Haris Sumer, Additional District Collector Mohammed Zubair N., Municipal Corporation Commissioner P.S. Manjunath, and District Social Welfare Department Deputy Director Chidanandappa, along with members of the Municipal Corporation, people’s representatives, association leaders, and members of the public.
