₹5.77 Crore in liquor sales, 10,706 boxes sold in Vijayanagara for New Year celebrations

The New Year celebrations in Vijayanagara district witnessed a massive surge in liquor sales, amounting to ₹5.77 crore. A total of 10,706 boxes of liquor and 5,169 beer crates were sold on the day of the celebrations, marking a notable increase in demand. In December, the district recorded the sale of 49.86 lakh liquor bottles and 10.24 lakh beer bottles, an increase of 1,566 boxes compared to the previous year.

The district has 154 liquor outlets, including wine shops, bars, and other establishments, contributing to the high sales volume. The increase in liquor sales is a direct reflection of the festive demand during the New Year period, which traditionally sees a peak in consumption.

Despite the surge in sales, authorities reported no untoward incidents during the New Year celebrations. SP Sriharibabu B.L. confirmed that the district remained calm and safe, with no major incidents reported. However, the police registered 110 drunk driving cases between December 29 and 31, highlighting the need for caution during such festive times.

The significant rise in liquor sales during the New Year celebrations further underscores the importance of the holiday season for local businesses, particularly liquor outlets, which see a marked increase in demand during this period.
